Divergent

Divergent (Divergent, #1)Title: Divergent
Author: Veronica Roth
Publisher: Katherine Tegen Books

Overview

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue--Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is--she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are--and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes infuriating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her.

Debut author Veronica Roth bursts onto the literary scene with the first book in the Divergent series--dystopian thrillers filled with electrifying decisions, heartbreaking betrayals, stunning consequences, and unexpected romance

Review

My absolute favorite book and the first YA novel I've read! Divergent is a spectacular and amazing book which will leave you breathless and wanting for more! Divergent by Veronica Roth is a Dystopian novel which takes place in a future Chicago in which the population is split into factions. ( Abnegation, Dauntless, Erudite, Candor and Amity) Beatrice Prior, the main character, was born into Abnegation and must now decide her fate but when the test results are inconclusive, she is torn between choosing the path of her family and a life she has yet to discover. When the time comes, she will have to choose ,and eventhough she knows she should choose her family, she feels that she doesn't belong. So when the day comes, she chooses Dauntless...but what's this? Her brother Caleb, the perfect, selfless one of them, chooses Erudite over her own family! Now, Beatrice can't help but feel guilty for abandoning her family, but the decision has been made...

Immediately, she is rushed into initiation and finds that not all will survive and only the best may make it through. In the race for survival, she meets 'Four', one of the Dauntless. Beatrice, now known as Tris, can't help feeling nervous around him and when he discovers what she is, they work together to prevent others from finding out, for if they did, she will meet her end. As thier feelings for each other develop, Tris discovers secrets that the Erudite are hiding and soon enough, all hell breaks lose when their plan has been taken into action. Lives are lost. Enemies are formed. Bonds are created. And factions are gone. But within the midst of it all, Tris discovers that there is more than what meets the eye. What will happen to the world now? What's so important that entire factions could be blown up for? And what will happen to Tris after losing people precious to her and killing her friend?

I highly recommend this book for everyone. Prepare for a long sitting as you read this book cause this book is un-put-downable! Readers will feel revived after this one.
